Meet the Cast and Characters of ‘The Testaments’
They’re still not out from under his eye, it seems...
Just when you thought you were out of Gilead, a sequel series to The Handmaid’s Tale is here with new women fighting tooth and nail against the bastards grinding them down. The dystopia created by Margaret Atwood and inspired by the real world in *waves hand* so many ways has expanded with new cast, new characters, and even new terms to learn. Get to know the who’s who of Hulu’s The Testaments.
The Testaments is set at a school for wives in Gilead, a few years after the series finale of The Handmaid’s Tale. While these girls are not shielded from all of the horrors of their fundamentalist society, they are in somewhat of a privileged and pristine position. They’ve also, of course, been brainwashed via a very selective education. They don’t see all the cracks… yet.
Chase Infiniti plays Agnes
Agnes is what’s known as a plum in Gilead. She’s an adolescent student at Aunt Lydia’s preparatory school for wives who was adopted by Commander Mackenzie as a young girl. Without giving away any spoilers, if you’ve read Atwood’s book, or even seen later seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale, you might have an inkling about how Agnes came to be with the Mackenzie family.
Infiniti practically became an overnight sensation after starring in One Battle After Another. She was nominated for an Actor Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for her role as revolutionaries Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor’s daughter. She also starred in the Apple TV+ thriller series Presumed Innocent and was recently cast in the coming-of-age drama The Julia Set alongside Christopher Briney.

Lucy Halliday plays Daisy
Daisy is a new recruit in Gilead and what’s called a “Pearl Girl” at Agnes’ school. She was raised in Toronto and had a very different life compared to her peers.
The Testaments is one of Halliday’s first major credits. Prior to the series, she starred in Georgia Oakley’s queer period drama Blue Jean and a short film.

Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia
Aunt Lydia was one of the secondary villains on The Handmaid’s Tale. She was in charge of raising and grooming deviant childbearing women to be ritually raped as handmaids. Now, she’s in a new position raising and grooming young wives.
Dowd won an Emmy in 2017 for playing Aunt Lydia on The Handmaid’s Tale. She is also known for The Leftovers, Compliance, Mass, Hereditary, Captain Fantastic, Marley & Me, and Garden State.

Mattea Conforti as Becka
Becka is a plum and Agnes’ friend at school. Unlike most of her classmates, she does not want to get married and dreams of running away from Gilead’s restrictions.
Conforti played the title role in Matilda the Musical on Broadway when she was eight years old. She was also in Sunday in the Park with George starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford and originated the role of Young Anna in Frozen on Broadway. (She actually reprised her stage role and voiced Young Anna in Frozen 2.) Her television credits include NOS4A2 and Power.

Rowan Blanchard plays Shunammite
Shunammite is a plum like Agnes. She’s from a good family, eager to be matched with a husband, and basically the Gilead version of a Queen Bee.
Blanchard starred in Girl Meets World as the daughter of 90s icons Cory and Topanga. She also had a recurring role on The Goldbergs and a lead on Snowpiercer. Her film credits include Crush,A Wrinkle in Time, and the DCOM Invisible Sister.

Isolde Ardies plays Huldah
Huldah, like Shunammite, is an eager plum and all-in on Gilead traditions.
Prior to The Testaments, Ardies played Stacey on Wayward and Viole on the children’s series Ruby and the Well.

Amy Seimetz plays Paula Judd
Paula is Agnes’ stepmother and Commander Mackenzie’s new-ish wife. The woman who raised Agnes in Gilead, Tabitha, died before the series begins.
Seimetz is an actress, writer, and director. Her films as an indie auteur include Sun Don’t Shine and She Dies Tomorrow. She played Eleven’s aunt on Stranger Things and Danette on The Killing. She also wrote, directed, and acted in several episodes of The Girlfriend Experience. Finally, if you like scary movies, you might recognize her from Alien: Covenant or the 2019 version of Pet Sematary.
Brad Alexander plays Garth
Garth is a young guardian at the Judd household where Agnes lives.
Prior to The Testaments, Alexander had a fairly significant role on the fourth season of You as Joe’s student Edward.

Mabel Li plays Aunt Vidala
Aunt Vidala is a teacher at the school who seems to be the perfect stern successor to the terrifying Aunt Lydia.
Li is an Australian television and theatre actress whose previous shows include Safe Home and New Gold Mountain.

Eva Foote plays Aunt Estee
Aunt Estee is another seemingly devout teacher at Lydia’s school.
Foote’s previous credits include Murdoch Mysteries and The Miniature Wife.
